Cleaning the cooling fins.

Welp. Finally decided i wanted rid of the oil stains on the top of the motor.
Hosed the whole thing down with engine degreaser after removing the covers, tank, seat etc etc...

Here's the good part...

I went to my favorite gun store, bought a handle and bore cleaning bronze brush the caliber of which fit nicely in my fins and scrubbed away. Motor looks like new again on top

So that's my tip. Gun bore cleaning handle and brush to scrub nasty burnt on oil stains between fins.

You can always take a paper and pencil and do a rubbing to have the spacing in hand when you judge which caliber brush to buy.

thats a good idea but I have a better one & that is after cleaning the head fins see where the oil is comming from most likley its from the cyclinder & the head is where the R.T.V is. If you reseal the head you will never have a leak or a dirty fins any more Just keep checking every so often. A shiney spot is the starting of a leak

Mines leaking now.it was nice n clean then I put a hair too much oil in it (don't know if it needs to be straight up or on the kickstand for the level check).now she leaks.on cars I usually tighten the head bolts and it's good.ive read that this leak is normal,so I was wondering if there's a better gasket for it somwhere?

Check oil level when bike is off side stand, on level ground and upright. Get a helper or use a mirror.

it's a light bike,I can hold it up by the grip while squatting down to see the level

Also, before checking the oil make sure it has been running and warmed up. Shut off and wait 3 minutes to check the oil.

Mmm .... I was always taught to check the oil level with the engine cold, before starting up.

More accurate cold......But if checking hot leave a few mins for oil to drain down.

I have found a piece of 2x4 makes the bike pretty level to check oil level.
