Never try to kick a dog while riding. That is a sure fire way to become unbalanced and crash. Tuck your legs and feet in as close as possible. The dog already has a moving target so why make it easier for him.

In general I think it is a herding instinct that makes dogs prone to chase bikes, motorcycles, people who run and all those other ways of getting about. I sure hope to be elsewhere when one of our local skateboarders is going downhill on the highway at 60 mph and finds a herd dog out for a walk. Sumbody gonna get hurt big time.

My dad drove a Model A pickup delivering chickens and eggs in Edmond, OK when he was 12-13 yrs old, dog used to chase him everyday so dad tied a burlap sack to the spokes (for those too young to remember, they had wood spoke wheels) thinking it would smack the dog in the head and scare him off.... dogs teeth got caught in the burlap... suffice it to say he didn't chase cars anymore

I'll double that. It's standard in my windshield bag. Don't leave home without it. I also keep a can on the bicycle. :biggrin:

WW, He already had hid teeth in my pants leg! Trust me, If I could have, I'd just drop a gear and hit the gas!

That is way to close for comfort. I wonder if an air horn would have startled him enough to stop chasing you ? I know air horns will move forest rats back into the trees where they belong.
