Axle not torque (how to)
 

I worked on my chain today and loosened the axle nut. But how in the heck do you put a torque wrench on it to tighten it up? The exhaust and the nut are too close together. I just guessed and tightened it without a torque wrench.

There is a bolt that holds the exhaust to a triangular plate, undo it and you can move the exhaust out of the way and torque wrench the axle nut.

This is called a crow's foot. You have to put it at a right angle to the length of the torque wrench to get an accurate reading.

Can you fit the torque wrench on the other end? It really doesn't make any difference which end of the bolt you are torqueing.
You could also go to the trouble of swapping the bolt end for end. Just another case of the bolt not caring and/or you might want to wait till you have the wheel off for a new tire to do the end for end thing.

It might not matter in this application, but the friction load on the bolt is generally much higher than that on the nut, so the load on the threads will be lower if you torque it from the bolt head vs. the nut.

Then you have to move the exhaust to get it out... 6 of one, half dozen of the other...

Just offering alternatives. I would go with torqueing from the other end for my own bike.
