Does anybody know what size the bolt is which holds the rear of the muffler to the frame? Mine fell out and I need to replace it. It's part #01580-1030A and is only $3.74, but I can get a replacement...

Re: Time for an engine overhaul?

Hey hey, at least two bits of good news this week: it's back together and actually running today and I finally finished my PhD. Hell yes! In hindsight, both of these things are clearly possible to...

Re: Time for an engine overhaul?

Damage report!

I got it all apart today and to my surprise only ONE of the rings was broken, into five pieces. For those of you curious, it is possible to take the head apart without removing the...

Re: Time for an engine overhaul?

Apparently the thing to google for this tool is 'tappet tool' and there are like a million different retailers selling kits with an 8, 9, and 10mm wrench with both 3mm (ie for GZ250) and 4mm square...

Re: Time for an engine overhaul?

Well blerg. I took the fuel cock off and there is a small scratch between the prime and reserve positions which is causing a leak from the tank through the reserve, to the prime. From what I could...

Re: Time for an engine overhaul?

@5th_bike: I googled after that part (which looks like it would sure do the job) and found only the denniskirk retailer which lists this product as 'no longer available', and I couldn't find it at...

I got a 2000 GZ250 for _free_ which had been sitting for 3yrs and didn't run when I got it. I'm finishing a PhD in mechanical engineering soon so I figured that working over a motorcycle...

Re: fork oil leak

Nevermind. No special parts needed, just some caveman action. You basically have to sort of ram the inner and outer tubes apart numerous times which gradually will work out the fork seal, then the...

Re: fork oil leak

I have the same problem with a GZ250 I've been nursing back to running condition, and bought new fork seals and wipers to replace the old ones.

There is also a small copper gasket at the bottom...
