I rebuilt my petcock not long ago and I don't remember that piece coming out. If you take it apart, you'll likely have to replace the little diaphragm because it'll get all torn up from being in one...

Cant believe no one replied to you! Should be no problem at all, if you start hearing weird noises I'd check for chain slap first but I wouldn't sweat it

You likely didn't do any damage, did you take the clutch arm off of the splines for the clutch release shaft? It could be that you didn't line the splines for the shaft and the clutch arm correctly....
