Yes, Mount Teide. From the rooftop of our apartment block it feels as though you could reach out & touch it, but it takes over an hour to get up through the zig zag road through the pine forests, to reach the cable car station that takes you to the summit. That's nearly as long as taking the coast road from one end of the island to the other. The road up the mountain has to zig zag, as it would be too steep to get straight up. Once you're at the cable car station you're looking DOWN at the clouds. A magnificent view. The problem is, that the holidaymakers who go on trips up there don't realise how cold it is at those altitudes. They stand there shivering in shorts & T shirts while the tour guides are wrapped up in parkas & gloves.
