These a simple machines, yes. But do require some things to be tightened up every now and then that most casual riders don't ever really consider, like the aforementioned header connections, carb boots and things of that nature. Being a wimpy thumper, little leaks can go unnoticed. And over time, those little leaks, that slightly extra lean condition, can overheat the valves. This is why it's also important to keep up with valve checks every now and then.
Being just slightly off, over 10,000 miles, can end up being too much.

All of the above plus a ride on an Interstate trying to keep up with traffic would would be a sure fire way to damage an engine. |
