Can't see how the chain tightening would affect the engine. Did you do something you are too embarrassed to tell us? Dropped the bike or something? We are all friends here so we won't laugh and point fingers. Any other little TLC moments you may have made and forgotten about?
Just a heads up concerning the chain tightening. Did you check your brake light for proper function? They will sometimes stick "on" because the rear wheel is moved further to the rear of the bike and actually pulls on the brake light switch. It is adjustable and located just to the rear of the brake pedal.
