muffler question

Hi, I bought a gz250 from my friend and he placed an aftermarket muffler/turbo on the exhaust. My problem started when the plate that is attached to the muffler that has a slot for the bolt from the frame to attach to muffler has broken off. I was wondering if i can ride it without the muffler to get to work and or take the muffler to a shop to get a new piece welded on?

any help would be appreciated
