Butanol v Ethanol
This isn't so much a troubleshooting post as it is just a question, but I couldn't find a better place to put it.
So the owner's manual says to stay away from gasolines that contain too much butanol. Well, a lot of stations I'm seeing now have a posted sign saying "Gas may contain 10% Ethanol." Would that have a negative effect on the GZ250? If so, is there a way to mod the bike itself to handle ethanol? Login or Register to Remove Ads |

All gas contains some ethanol. I don't see why we should use food resources to fuel our driving appetite but that's a different post and you don't want to get me started.
It won't harm your bike. Somewhere in the service manual I believe it says something about not using a gasoline with an ethanol content higher than 10%, but don't quote me on that. The only thing that it might damage, in higher concentrations, would the lining of the rubber gasoline lines and it would break down the gaskets inside the carb. However, a 10% ethanol content isn't going to do that. Just make sure you never buy E-85. That's an 85% ethanol content. I've never seen a gas that contains an ethanol content higher than 10% that is not E-85. So you should be safe. |

I filled up this weekend at Sheetz where they have that "warning" on all the pumps and was thinking, "Geez, I hope someone answered my thread!" :rawk: Login or Register to Remove Ads |
