Hey folks, new GZ owner and member

Well, I was shopping around for some advice and happened on this forum. I have to say it is very comprehensive. I bought my 2001 GZ a few months ago and am loving it. A few small problems with it but its my first bike and am looking forward to tinkering with it. I'm down in Panama City, Fl and am riding it since the car decided to up and die on me. The gas mileage is wonderful and actually look forward to riding the bike instead of driving the car. I also love the feeling of telling coworkers that I can fill up for less then $10 and go 2 weeks on a tank of gas. I am not knowledgeable on bikes but perhaps I can contribute in other ways. Heres to a bright future with new friends :rawk:

Hi there.

Just don't forget to set the trip meter back to zero, every time you fill up. It's the only "fuel guage" on the bike.

I fill up every time the trip meter gets to 200 km (124 miles) That way you don't need to switch over to reserve. Over here, that costs me around €7 ($9?). Also, don't forget that the carb is the achilles heel of the GZ, so remember to add a dose of carb cleaner/fuel additive every 3 or 4 tankfuls.

I reckon you should get mid 60s (MPG) with the geezer. I've had mine nearly 4 years now, and it's the ultimate bike for getting through congested traffic. Just don't plan on too much freeway riding. Like most 250s, it doesn't like being pushed for any great length of time at full throttle, & you won't have anything in reserve. :2tup:

Welcome aboard! From the sound of it you're new to riding. I would recommend the MSF BRC (Motorcycle Safety Foundation Basic Rider Course) as a starting point before you acquire bad habits. Good luck and ride safe.
