New from South Carolina

Hey all! My name is Joel and I live in South Carolina. I have a 2000 GZ-250 that I got about a year ago. It has 7400 miles on it ( 3900 when I got it ) and I LOVE it! It's mainly a to and from work bike, and it's been a good one. I plan to keep it for a long time to come. It sat up for about two years or so before I got it and took some work to get it up to par. Had keys made, new tires, brakes, chain, battery, voltage rectifier, clutch interlock switch, throttle cables, headlight and tail light bulbs, clutch cover gasket, oil and filter, spark plug, and windshield. With the exception of the tires, brakes, and keys I did the rest myself. Total invested : $875.00 ( including some accent lighting ) I look forward to being on the forum and exchanging info with my new friends.

Hi there, & welcome to the madhouse.

Ouch! 3900 miles, & you had to do all that? Some of it sounds like damage, & some sounds like wear & tear that shouldn't have happened at that mileage (or even the present mileage)Still - if you've got it in good shape now, it should last you for MANY more miles/years. :2tup:

Re: New from South Carolina

Welcome aboard from another South Carolinian!!! I'm in Longs by N Myrtle Beach and started on a GZ250. If you haven't already, my recomendation is to take the MSF BRC (Motorcycle Safety Foundation Basic Rider Course) at the HGTC (if in the area) on 501. It will help you develop good riding habits. Ride safe.

Well, it did sit up for a couple three years. I guess it was the age and not the mileage. Some of it was done for peace of mind, and some because it needed it. But hey, a little under a grand invested, a reliable bike now, and some learning in the proscess...I'll take it! :2tup:
